The Arts Campus at Willits will define the cultural identity of the Roaring Fork Valley by curating, presenting and producing performing, cinematic and culinary arts events. The Arts Campus will increase arts education and awareness, strengthen economic diversity, and enrich community vitality by curating 200 music and performing arts events per year and offering educational and community programs. The Arts Campus is currently programming at The Temporary while fundraising and planning for the opening of a permanent home that will be an enduring cultural and economic anchor for the community.

The vision for the Arts Campus was put in place when Willits was first conceived 25 years ago when the developers and the Town of Basalt set aside a Performing Arts Parcel and implemented a Real Estate Transfer Assessment (RETA) to help realize the vision. Willits has grown up around this parcel and the adjacent Civic Parcel into a diverse, progressive, inclusive, active, walkable community that has emerged as the retail, services, and residential pulse of the MidValley.

The transformative opportunities of an arts and cultural center are inspiring given Willits’s rising status as the heart of the Roaring Fork Valley. Music and comedy acts will provide localized entertainment that is accessible by foot, bike, or bus. Unique cinematic and culinary offerings will provide access to exotic tastes and artistic styles. Lectures and special events will serve as catalysts to conversations about compelling, current topics. These offerings will be combined and integrated in unique ways that will bring people together throughout the year.

The Arts Campus will be a place for creative expression. In addition to presenting a broad range of imported acts, collaborations with local nonprofits will support their programming and direction. Most importantly, robust educational programming will ensure that students have the opportunity to find their own voice through the arts. These initiatives are a critical part of the vision for the Arts Campus as it aspires to create a culture where the arts are integrated into the fabric of our community. The Arts Campus at Willits will be an inclusive artistic opportunity for the Midvalley that will inspire its residents and introduce us all to new perspectives and viewpoints. The programming will infuse the Midvalley with the excitement, energy and spirit that great art brings out in all who experience it, those who perform it, and the community that grows around it.
