An Evening with DeVotchKa
DeVotchKa is a four-piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble. Based in Denver, Colorado, the quartet is made up of Nick Urata, who sings and plays theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano, and trumpet; Tom Hagerman, who plays violin, accordion, and piano; Jeanie Schroder, who sings and plays sousaphone, double bass, and flute; and Shawn King, who plays percussion and trumpet. Nick Urata, describes the bands sound this way, “I want to capture that moment of twilight falling, where there’s electricity in the air and you get that sense that everything is going to be OK, The harsh sunlight is gone, you start to get messages from your spiritual side, and it’s not all about the day’s work and politics
and struggles. There's a sense of something bigger at twilight - once the night falls, there is music.'
