The Permanent

The Arts Campus at Willits is currently fundraising to construct a permanent building that will be an incubator for arts, technology, and culture. The facility has been designed to be flexible, multipurpose, and allow for simultaneous events. The architecture anticipates an articulated one story building combining block and translucent glass walls activated by the action within. An expansive canopy floats over the outside courtyard. A forward looking 21st century building, the design will connect with Willits and Basalt past, present, and future.

The building’s main performance space is a modern and highly flexible hall with high ceilings and current production infrastructure. It will hold 350 people standing and will seat 280 in a range of configurations including concert, performance, club, in-the-round theater, and dance hall. Additionally, there is an intimate 90-seat raked theater with fixed seating for lectures, talks, and movies. An airy lobby opens to the covered courtyard which doubles as another event space. A central kitchen serves the performance spaces, the lobby and courtyard. A broad exterior screen is contemplated for movies, art, and live feed video of inside events during the summer.

  • Large mixed-use space: 350 guests standing, 280 guests seated
  • Film and lecture hall with sloped floor for 90 guests
  • Industrial demonstration and support kitchen
  • Lobby that also serves as a dining room and exhibit space
  • Rehearsal room and suite of offices
  • Covered events courtyard
  • Expansive lawn and outdoor area
  • Outdoor screen
